I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in campaigning for my captaincy. It is quite surprising to me as I was not even aware I was running for it. At first, I thought this is perhaps a better choice than having a hanging sword “elsewhere”; but it is exciting nevertheless.
I choose not to make any promises but I do know that at the end of year 2008, I will have to look back to assess my performance as a captain, and also performance of my team. In dreams, one may think he is a leader because there is a huge crowd behind him. But in reality, he may just happen to walk in front of a crowd! In other words, I do not want to be the one walking in front of a team and thinking I am a leader but rather have my team walking with me and following me in achieving the common goal – Winning at all cost!
The days of playing for fun in “B” are over. My friends, on and off the field, you are allowed to laugh and have fun during the course of the game, unlike “A”, but remember, there is no glory in laughing and having fun if the purpose is not served! If I did not make it clear, purpose is to win!
If any of my teammates have any suggestions, please feel free to discuss. As Yogeshkaka says, and says a lot, that we win as a team and loose as a team. So let’s make a team that wins!
